Here's an interesting theory I thought of. It might not be entirely mine, but I've noticed there's a similarity between the colors of the sages in the game The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, and the colors of the chakras. The chakras are the Muladhara, Svadhisthana, Manipura, Anahata, Visuddha, Ajna, and Sahasrara. The elements that these chakras represent are different than the elements that the sages in OoT represent, but you can see the attributes that they represent clearly through the characteristics of each of the environments and the characters that inhabit these worlds.
The Fire Temple and the Red Sage
The Fire Temple is located in an environment where the very life blood of the Earth flows through its halls from out of the planet's core. Water can be called the Earth's life blood, too, but it's through volcanic activity and the shifting and migration of the tectonic plates that the world as we know it was formed. The core of the Earth is also where all life pulls its energy. It's the root of all life and energy. This is why the Muladhara chakra is the most obvious choice for what's represented through the Fire Temple's features, and the characteristics of its inhabitants. The Muladhara is the root chakra, and is our very base, our foundation in this physical world. The Muladhara's color is red.
The Spirit Temple and the Orange Sage
The Spirit Temple, although located in the desert, represents the human spirit. It's in the very name of the temple. Spirit is emotion, creativity, expression, and even sexual desire. The element of sexual desire is clearly represented through the characteristics of its inhabitants, the Gerudo people. Although obviously designed to represent the element of sexual desire, they also represent the passion and drive that is the human spirit. They're fierce in combat, and their clothes have elegant patterns and colors, which suggests a very developed appreciation for art. This is why the Svadhisthana chakra is most obvious choice for what's represented through the Spirit Temple, and the characteristics of its inhabitants. The Svadhisthana is the chakra of the human spirit, creativity, and sexual desire. The Svadhisthana chakra's color is orange.
The Light Temple and the Yellow Sage
The Light Temple, although not an explorable area, is the meeting place of the sages. It's located in the Sacred Realm. The elements represented here are judgment, intellect, and thought. This can be guessed, because the Sacred Realm seems to be the game's version of Heaven. The Manipura governs the human sense of judgment, intellect, and thought, and that's clearly represented through the Light Temple's features, and the characteristics of its only inhabitants, the sages. The Manipura chakra's color is yellow.
The Forest Temple and the Green Sage
The Forest Temple's sage is Saria. Her very nature represents the characteristics of the Anahata chakra. Anahata is compassion, love, and balance. This is also represented by the Kokiri people, who live in harmony with nature. Saria loves Link, and is very compassionate towards him, as well. Anahata is the heart chakra, and its color is green.
The Water Temple and the Blue Sage
The representation found in the Water Temple might not be as clear, but the zora people likely use echolocation in order to navigate when swimming underwater. Their vocalizations and vibrations guide them. You can also hear sounds more clearly in water than you can in air. The Visuddha chakra is the throat, and is the center of our voice, vibration, and self-expression. Its color is blue.
The Shadow Temple and the Purple Sage
Throughout the Shadow Temple, you have to rely on a different kind of sight to tell you the truth about what lies ahead. The Ajna chakra does this by revealing things that cannot be observed or seen by our physical eyes. The Ajna is intuition, imagination, and clairvoyance, and its color is indigo, but sometimes purple.
The Temple of Time and Zelda
The Temple of Time is a place that serves as a gateway to the past and future. Time itself brings enlightenment and knowing, as we age and learn and experience life. These are both represented by Sahasrara. Cosmic consciousness is also represented by Sahasrara, and Zelda contains a piece of that higher power within her: the Triforce. She is also the Princess of Hyrule, and another name for Sahasrara is the crown chakra. The color of Sahasrara is white.
Hope you enjoyed this. It's okay if someone has already noticed this before. If you have, add onto anything I've missed by explaining it in the comments. I'd like to know everyone else's speculations about it...and if I'm wrong about anything, or you disagree, please be nice. No flaming.
Can't wait to see what you think about this, too.
